Simplifying Bible Time at True North VBS: 5 Days of Faith-Filled Fun That Stick

Helping Kids Find Their Way with Jesus as Their Compass

If you’re leading Bible Time at True North VBS 2025, you already know it’s more than telling stories—it’s about helping kids discover that Jesus is our True North. But how do we make these truths stick in a kid’s heart without overwhelming volunteers?

Here’s a simplified, super-engaging teaching strategy for every day of Bible Time that’s rooted in the curriculum but easy to adapt, remember, and teach.

🧭 Core Message: Jesus Is Our True North

Every day is built around one big truth:

“No matter what we face, we can trust Jesus.”

Reinforce this with a large compass visual on your teaching wall, always pointing toward Jesus at the center.

🎯 How to Make Bible Time Stick

Each day follows a clear, repeatable rhythm:

  1. Start with a Compass Chant “North, south, east, west—Jesus helps us pass the test!”
  2. Act Out the Bible Story
Let kids use props, hand motions, or sound effects. Example: splashing water for baptism or roaring wind at Pentecost.
  3. Teach the Bible Point with a Buddy
Hold up the Buddy and ask, “What do we do when we feel [confused/lonely/etc.]?”
    Kids shout: “Trust Jesus!”
  4. Sticky Scripture with Movement
Pair each verse with simple motions:
    • 📖 “Anyone who listens…” → cup hand to ear
    • 🙌 “Come to me…” → arms wide
    • 👣 “I am with you always…” → point to heart and point outwards
  5. End with a Takeaway Prayer
Let kids fill in the blanks: “Jesus, when I feel _______, I will trust You.”

🧒 Volunteer Pro-Tips

  • Color Code the Days: Use colored wristbands, signs, or tablecloths for fast association (Day 1 = Blue, Day 2 = Green, etc.).
  • Buddy Matching Game: Line up all 5 Buddies. Ask a life scenario (e.g., “What if I feel scared at school?”). Kids match the right Buddy and answer.
  • Create “Bible Time Cards” for Each Volunteer:
    One card per day with:
    • Bible Point
    • Key Verse (shortened if needed)
    • 1-sentence story recap
    • Buddy & motion
    • Prayer prompt

🎁 BONUS: Send It Home!

At the end of each day, give each child a simple take-home card or sticker with:

  • The Buddy
  • The Bible Point
  • A challenge: “This week, when you feel ____, trust Jesus!”

Or email/text parents a short recap to spark dinner conversations!

🙏 Final Thoughts

Bible Time doesn’t need to be complicated to be powerful. In fact, the simpler and more engaging it is, the more it sinks deep into the hearts of children—and volunteers too!

Let Jesus be the True North in every teaching moment. Point to Him. Speak His name. Let your heart lead with love and clarity.

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20 (NLT)
