Looking for a fun and impactful stage decoration for your Lifeway Magnified VBS 2025? This Giant Purpose Bee is more than just a cute visual—it’s a powerful reminder of the truth in Ephesians 2:10:
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus…” (NLT)
Let’s build a hanging or freestanding bee that enhances your VBS environment and reinforces the message that every child has a purpose.
🛠️ Supplies You’ll Need
- Yellow Paper Lantern (12″ or 16″) – Bee body
- Black Crepe Paper or Adhesive Felt Strips – For stripes
- Black Foam Board or Cardboard – Wings and stinger
- White Paper Plates + Black Circles – Oversized cartoon-style eyes
- Black Pipe Cleaners – Antennae
- Glue Gun or Glue Dots
- Monofilament / Fishing Line – To suspend from ceiling
- Optional: LED Lights inside for a glowing bee effect
🐝 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Build the Bee Body
Open your yellow paper lantern. Wrap 3–4 black stripes around it using crepe paper or peel-and-stick felt strips.
2. Create the Eyes & Face
Cut two white paper circles from paper plates. Glue black felt circles in the center. Add a smiling mouth with a strip of black felt or marker.
3. Assemble the Wings & Tail
Cut two large ovals for wings out of black foam board or sturdy cardboard. Make a cone-shaped tail for the stinger and glue it to the back.
4. Add Antennae
Curl two black pipe cleaners and insert them into the top of the lantern (use hot glue to secure if needed).
5. Hang or Stand
Use fishing line or monofilament to hang the bee above the stage or from ceiling tiles. For a grounded version, attach to a dowel in a flower pot or foam base.
💡 Optional Variation – Dollar Tree Version
A creative VBS leader suggested a budget-friendly variation using:
- A jumbo plastic egg for the body
- Bubble wrap for textured eyes
- A paper towel roll base
This version is perfect for indoor/outdoor displays, entrances, or even VBS photo booths.
🎯 Thematic Integration for Magnified VBS
This decor fits perfectly with Day 1 or Day 5 of Lifeway’s Magnified VBS 2025, emphasizing God’s creation, identity, and purpose. You can pair it with a giant magnifying glass, paper flowers, and a backdrop of Psalm 139 or Ephesians 2:10.
